The region has a rich history, yet not well-known! One of the oldest wine growing regions dating back to 1769. The AVA also includes two smaller AVA’s - Pacheo Pass and San Ysidro District. In the mid 1850’s, Santa Clara County had more acres of vines and vineyards than any other county in the entire state of California. There were over 100 wineries in Santa Clara County by 1883, with 15,000 acres of vines. The Santa Clara Valley Wine Trail established in 2014, includes roadside signage providing easy navigation to the wineries. In 2020, a year-long Wine Trail Pass was created that provides visitors the chance to visit each winery for a one-time tasting with three Wine Trail Days held in the Winter, Summer and Fall. Come enjoy this thriving region and laid back style that includes highly-awarded wine right in your backyard with wineries hosting 40+ events each month.
